Joan Mir

Joan Mir Mayrata (born September 1, 1997 in Palma ) is a Spanish motorcycle racer and world champion in the Moto3 class.

Career

Early years

Before moving to the World Championship, Mir drove in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup from 2013 to 2014 and finished the 2014 season in second place in the overall standings behind his compatriot Jorge Martín . In 2015 he competed in the CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship and finished the season with fourth place overall.

Moto3 class

2015 Mir made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Iceland in Leopard Racing team of Stefan Kiefer as a reserve driver for Hiroki Ono .

In 2016 , Joan Mir drove his first full season in the Moto3 class with Leopard Racing alongside Fabio Quartararo and Andrea Locatelli . He achieved his first podium and immediately his first victory at the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring . He finished the season in fifth place overall and thus as the best rookie .

In 2017 his team Leopard Racing switched back to Honda . After 14 races, Mir achieved the record for the most victories per season in Moto3 with eight first places. At the Australian Grand Prix, two races before the end of the season, he won the world title.

Moto2 class

For the 2018 season, Joan Mir switched to the Moto2 class. At Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS he became team mate of Álex Márquez . The season was a successful one for a newcomer in the class, at the end of the season he was sixth in the World Championship and was second and third twice, making him the most successful rookie of the year.

MotoGP class

2019 he moved after only one year in the Moto2 class in the MotoGP class to Suzuki - factory team .
