Hugh Anderson (born January 18, 1936 in Auckland ) is a retired New Zealand motorcycle racer .

Anderson was able to become motorcycle world champion four times in his career on Suzuki and win the legendary Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man twice .

In 1995 he was inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame .

Career

Hugh Anderson began his career in the New Zealand championship, which he dominated in the classes up to 350 cm³ and up to 500 cm³ for years and was able to win a total of 19 times.

In the motorcycle world championship , Anderson made his debut in 1960 at the Ulster Grand Prix in the 350 cc class on AJS. In his first race, he was able to take third place straight away. His first win came in 1962 at the Argentine Grand Prix in the 50 cc class on a Suzuki .

In the 1963 season Hugh Anderson then dominated both the 50 cc and the 125 cc class and was able to win the world championship in both. In 1964 he was even able to defend his 50th title.

In the 1965 season , the New Zealander won his second 125cc World Championship with seven wins from nine races. At the end of the 1966 season, he ended his active career.

Hugh Anderson contested a total of 68 motorcycle Grand Prix in his career, of which he won 25 and landed 48 times on the podium.
