Simone Corsi
Simone Corsi (born April 24, 1987 in Rome ) is an Italian motorcycle racer . In 2008 he was runner- up in the 125 cm³ class of the motorcycle world championship .
Career
Beginnings
Corsi began motorcycling at the age of 4, as the son of the motocross rider Stefano Corsi, the talent seemed to have been put in his cradle. So he was active in the minibike scene like his (today) more successful compatriots Valentino Rossi or Marco Melandri until 2000 and won the Italian championship title twice. It followed the road to the Italian motorcycle road championship on a-125cc machine with the tenth place in his first race in 2001. The following year he finished as third overall in this series, a wild card at the Italian Grand Prix of the Motorcycle -World Cup in Mugello was the reward: he was 22.
Motorcycle world championship
In 2003 and 2004 Corsi drove alongside Andrea Dovizioso (2004 World Champion) in the Scot team in the 125 cc class. He achieved a podium (3rd) at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi .
The one-year change to the 250 cc class in 2005 did not follow the upward trend of previous years with a fifth place in the Spanish Grand Prix . Corsi switched back to the 125 cc class; the constant improvement in the overall ranking proved him right. He celebrated his first Grand Prix victory in the third race of the season in 2007 , the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul . And finally, in 2008, with a total of four wins, including one on the home track in Mugello, three third places and three pole positions, the Italian came second in the overall standings with 225 points behind the superior world champion Mike Di Meglio , who took nine podium places four wins, and had experienced 264 points. In the following year, 2009 , Corsi had no chance against the much younger colleagues, with only two podium finishes, he ended up in the middle of the overall table. Another change seemed advisable.
He has been racing in the newly created Moto2 class since 2010 and is returning to his old strength. In the third race he was able to celebrate on the podium as third.
