Barberá 2010 on MotoGP Ducati

Héctor Barberá (born November 2, 1986 in Dos Aguas ) is a Spanish motorcycle racer .

In the current 2018 season, he is driving a Kalex in the Moto2 class of the motorcycle world championship .

Career

Beginnings

Héctor Barberá inherited his enthusiasm for racing from his father and began his career in trials . In 1995, at the age of nine, he took part in the Trial Championship of the Comunidad Valenciana for his age group for the first time. The following year he was able to win this.

In 1999 Barberá started road racing alongside trials. A year later he won the 50 cc - Formula Airtel championship of Comunidad Valenciana, and he also started in the Spanish Motorcycle Championship, which he was able to close in fourth.

In the 2001 season Héctor Barberá started in the Formula de Campeones and in the Copa Aprilia 125 cc and was able to celebrate winning the championship in both series. In 2002 he was Spanish champion in the 125 cc class on Aprilia .

125 cc class

In 2002 Barberá switched to the 125 cm³ class of the motorcycle world championship and started in the Master Aspar team on Aprilia. After initial difficulties, he managed to make it into the top ten at the end of the season and ended the season with 50 points in 14th place overall. He was also able to win the Spanish 125 cc championship this year.

The 2003 season Barberá continued to play in the Aspar team on Aprilia and made his breakthrough at the age of only 16. When Grand Prix of Great Britain in Donington Park he celebrated his first victory, later, at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi , he even managed a second win. At the Portuguese Grand Prix in Estoril , he managed to finish the race in second from 22nd on the grid. In the overall World Championship he was third with 164 points.

For the 2004 season, Héctor Barberá moved to the Seedorf Racing team of soccer star Clarence Seedorf , where he again drove an Aprilia. His teammate that year was compatriot Álvaro Bautista . With four Grand Prix victories and 202 points, he was runner-up this year and only had to give way to the Italian Andrea Dovizioso .

250 cc class

In the 2005 season Barberá started in the 250 cc class for the first time. Together with his compatriot Jorge Lorenzo, he formed the Fortuna Honda team and started on a Honda factory machine. Héctor Barberá made it into the top 10 on a regular basis, but was still overshadowed by his teammate, who finished fifth, while Barberá only managed ninth place.

For the 2006 season, the Fortuna team switched from Honda to Aprilia motorcycles. Already at the beginning of the season, Barberá's relationship with Lorenzo cooled down and they hardly spoke a word to each other. While team-mate Jorge Lorenzo was world champion with eight wins from 16 races, Barberá only had one win at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai and seventh place in the World Championship.

The 2007 season denied Hector Barbera on an Aprilia semi-works machine in the Hungarian Team Toth . Although he could not record a victory this time, he achieved five podium positions and was able to climb to fifth place in the World Championship with 177 points.

Also in the 2008 season Barberá played in Team Toth and in the 2009 season Barberá secured the runner-up in the world championship behind Hiroshi Aoyama .

MotoGP class

In the 2010 season , Barberá competed in Team Aspar Ducati on a Ducati Desmosedici GP10 in the MotoGP class. He finished 12th with 90 points, his best individual placements were eighth in the races in France and Valencia. The 2011 season he contested again with the Aspar team in MotoGP.

Moto2 class

In the 2018 season, Barbera drove a Kalex for Sito Pons' team. On June 9th, the Sito Pons team ended their collaboration with Héctor due to an alcohol trip.
