Scott Redding (born January 4, 1993 in Quedgeley , England ) is a British motorcycle racer .

Career

Motorcycle world championship

125 cc class

After success in the Spanish championship, Redding started in 2008 with Blusens Aprilia for the first time in the motorcycle world championship in the 125 cc class. He took his first Grand Prix victory at the Grand Prix of Great Britain from fourth position on the grid. At fifteen years and 170 days, he was the youngest GP winner to date. He finished the season in eleventh place overall and was named Rookie of the Year . In 2009 , a third place in Donington was his best result.

Moto2 class

Redding, Qatar 2010

For the 2010 season, Redding switched to the Marc VDS Racing Team in the Moto2 class. In Indianapolis he was able to take third place. At the Grand Prix of San Marino he was one of the two drivers who could no longer evade Shōya Tomizawas after a fall and rolled over him, whereupon Tomizawa died. Redding did not suffer any serious injuries. Until 2011 , Redding drove on Suter . In 2012 his team switched to Kalex . In the 2013 he fought with the Spaniard Pol Espargaró for the world title. Up until three races to go, Redding was 9 points ahead of the overall standings. But in qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix , he fell and injured his wrist . He was unable to contest the race the next day and Espargaró won the race. In the penultimate race in Japan, he collided with the motorcycle of Esteve Rabat , who had fallen in front of him . The race was restarted without the injured Redding after being stopped. Pol Espargaró won again and became world champion . Scott Redding was runner-up, 40 points behind.

MotoGP class

For the 2014 season Scott Redding got into the MotoGP in class. He drove in the GO & FUN Honda Gresini team on a Honda RCV1000R in the Open category. His teammate was the Spaniard Álvaro Bautista . At the end of the season he finished 12th overall with 81 points. In 2015 he switched back to the Marc VDS Racing Team . There he drove a Honda RC213V in the Factory category. He finished third at the San Marino Grand Prix. He finished the season with 84 points in 13th place overall. Scott Redding has been driving a Ducati Desmosedici for Pramac Racing since 2016 . His teammate is the Italian Danilo Petrucci . At the Austrian Grand Prix 2017 it was announced that Redding will switch to Aprilia Racing Team Gresini from 2018 . He replaces his compatriot Sam Lowes there .

British Superbike Championship

In 2019 Redding moved to the British Superbike Championship , where he drove a Ducati for the Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team . In this near-series class, he immediately secured the title. At the end of the season, Redding had 697 points on his account, five points more than his teammate Joshua Brookes .

Superbike World Championship

In 2020 the Briton finally switched to the World Championship of the Superbike series and continued to ride a Ducati. He immediately switched to the works team and replaced last year's vice world champion Álvaro Bautista , who had switched to Honda . His teammate is Welsh Chaz Davies . Redding fought for victory in the very first race and ended up third behind Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Alex Lowes . He repeated this result in the sprint race, this time behind the reigning world champion Jonathan Rea and Razgatlıoğlu. Redding was also third in the second main race, this time behind Lowes and Rea. After the first race weekend, Redding is second in the championship behind Lowes.
