Danilo Petrucci (born October 24, 1990 in Terni ) is an Italian motorcycle racer . His nickname is "Petrux".

Career

Petrucci 2014

Petrucci is a trained police officer and occasionally expresses this by wearing a "Polizia" design helmet at racing events. From 2007 to 2009 he rode a Yamaha in the European Superstock 600 championship. In 2010 he moved to the Superstock 1000 Cup . There he competed for the Pedercini team on Kawasaki . In 2011 Petrucci was runner-up in this championship on a Ducati 1098R for the Barni Racing Team , two points behind Davide Giugliano . In the Italian championship he won the title in this category on a Barni- Ducati ahead of Ivan Clementi .

In 2012 Danilo Petrucci switched to the MotoGP class of the motorcycle world championship for the Clame IodaRacing Project team around Giampiero Sacchi . He contested his first races on an Aprilia RSV4 in the newly created Claiming Rule category. In the last third of the season, he started on a Suter - BMW . At the last race of the season, the Valencia Grand Prix at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit , he was able to achieve his best MotoGP position to date with eighth place. In the final classification, the Italian had 27 points that gave him 19th place overall.

In the 2013 season , Petrucci competed for the same team on a Suter BMW. He was 17th overall. with 26 points His teammate was the Czech Lukáš Pešek , who remained without points.

In 2014, Petrucci stayed with the team for another year, this time on an Aprilia . He collected 17 points and finished the season in 20th place.

In 2015 , Petrucci moved to OCTO Pramac Ducati for two seasons . He scored more points this year and even finished second at the British Grand Prix on the podium. He finished tenth overall and with 113 points collected more than twice as many as his Colombian team-mate Yonny Hernández .

The 2016 season got off to a miserable start for Petrucci when he had to skip the first four races after a crash. After that, however, he recovered and was World Cup 14. With 75 to 74 points, he even left his team-mate Scott Redding , who, unlike the Italian, had once finished on the podium, just behind him. However, the low points were the Dutch TT and the German Grand Prix , where he fell while in the lead. His contract with Pramac was extended for two more seasons.

In 2017 , Petrucci finished on the podium four times, including two second places at the Dutch TT and at the San Marino Grand Prix , where he narrowly missed victory over Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez in the last lap . Thanks to a few falls, however, he only improved to eighth place in the World Cup, leaving Redding well behind with 124 to 64 points.

In 2018 , the Italian only managed one podium, but he finished the season again in eighth place and with 144 points even collected more than the previous year. His team-mate Jack Miller , who raced on the previous year's model, scored 91 points.

In 2019 Petrucci rose to the Ducati factory team as the successor to Jorge Lorenzo . On June 2nd, Petrucci drove his first MotoGP victory in the photo finish against Marc Márquez at the Italian Grand Prix in the 124th attempt . He finished the season in sixth place overall with 176 points, which is his best finish to date, but this was overshadowed by poor performance in the second half of the season, which ultimately cost Ducati the team title. His contract expires at the end of 2020.

On June 25, 2020 it was announced that Petrucci will switch to Tech3- KTM in 2021 . Petrucci's former Pramac team-mate, Australian Jack Miller, will take his place at Ducati.
