The San Marino Grand Prix was a Formula 1 racing event in Imola, Italy . The event was called the San Marino Grand Prix because a different race was held as the Italian Grand Prix in each of the seasons .

The first Grand Prix of San Marino was held in the 1981 season at the Autodromo Dino Ferrari . After Enzo Ferrari's death in 1988, the name of the circuit was extended to Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari . The first race on this circuit in the 1980 season was the Italian Grand Prix .

Since the San Marino Grand Prix was held in Imola in Italy not far from Maranello , Ferrari's headquarters , the event was also commonly referred to as Ferrari's “home game”.

The route of the racetrack required frequent speed changes, so that the brakes of the racing cars were particularly challenged on this route.

Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna died here within two days during the racing weekend in 1994 .

The last race in Imola for the time being took place in 2006. In 2007, the San Marino Grand Prix was removed from the racing calendar because the facility was no longer considered up-to-date.
