The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is a Formula 1 race that has been held at the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan since 2017 . A street circuit in the capital Baku was chosen as the venue .

After the 2016 race was held as the European Grand Prix on the same route , the organizers decided to change the name at the end of 2016 in order to better market the country for tourism .

In 2020 the race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
