Eight Formula 1 races are grouped under the name Grand Prix of the USA East . From 1976 to 1980 five races were held in Watkins Glen , New York , from 1982 to 1985 three races were held in Detroit , Michigan . The USA East title was awarded retrospectively to classify the various grands prix in the United States .

Watkins Glen (1976-1980)

The five Formula 1 Grands Prix, which took place from 1976 to 1980 at Watkins Glen International near Watkins Glen , New York , are classified as the Grand Prix of the USA East in today's statistics . At that time the races were officially called the United States Grand Prix . Watkins Glen hosted the United States Grand Prix from 1961 to 1975 .

The races on the 5.435 km long permanent race track always took place at the beginning of October.

Detroit (1982–1985)

From 1982 to 1988 Formula 1 races were held on the Detroit Street Circuit in Detroit , Michigan . The races were officially called the Detroit Grand Prix . The first three races are classified as the US Grand Prix , the other four Grand Prix as the US Grand Prix .

The races took place on a 4.023 km long street circuit .
