Street circuit

Circuit de Pau - the oldest street circuit in the world used in its original form

Temporary grandstand of the Circuit de Monaco
A street circuit is a race track that is only temporarily set up on public roads in a city. To this end, the affected streets will be closed to traffic and the route will be cordoned off with fences, crash barriers and concrete walls for motorsport , cycling or running events. The buildings for the race management as well as the grandstands are often only built for the event and then removed again.
Most of the street courses were set up on long-established roads. But there are also courses that have been newly planned and created in urban areas. As a result, they were, at least partially, opened to public transport, such as the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal .
