The XIV. Race of Champions took place on April 10, 1983 at the Brands Hatch Circuit in Great Britain , one week before the first European World Championship round in France . Most of the racing teams that also took part in the World Championship were registered. With the exception of Theodore and Arrows , who competed with two cars, the teams only sent one car into the race. A total of 13 vehicles were at the start. The British Spirit team made their debut in this race, using a six-cylinder turbo engine developed by Honda for Stefan Johansson for the first time. In qualifying, the reigning world champion Keke Rosberg with his Williams FW08C - Cosworth took pole position ahead of René Arnoux in the turbo- powered 126C of Scuderia Ferrari . The last starter was Jean-Louis Schlesser , who drove for the underfunded RAM Racing team and did not complete a timed lap in qualifying. The race was won by Williams driver Rosberg half a second ahead of Danny Sullivan in the Tyrrell 011 . A total of seven drivers crossed the finish line; the last was Roberto Guerrero in Theodore N183 .
