Corrado Fabi (born April 12, 1961 in Milan ) is a former Italian racing driver . Fabi won the Formula 2 European Championship in 1982 . He then played a season in Formula 1 without scoring a championship point in this class. He is the younger brother of the racing driver Teo Fabi .

Motorsport career

Beginnings

Corrado Fabi began his motorsport career with kart racing. At the age of 14 he got a works driver contract with the Italian kart manufacturer Birel . In 1978 Fabi switched to Formula 3 and took part in the Italian Formula 3 championship . In 1980 he drove with Michele Alboreto for the Euroracing team and finished third in the final ranking.

Formula 2

In 1981 Fabi took part in the Formula 2 European Championship for the first time. He drove for the March works team and was fifth in the drivers' championship in his debut year. In the following year Fabi stayed in the March factory team. He won five of 13 races and finished second in two races. During the season he fought with his teammate Johnny Cecotto for the lead in the drivers' championship. After the last race both drivers were tied on points; Due to a peculiarity in the regulations, however, only the best nine results were counted for the championship ranking (so-called discarded results), so that Cecotto was ultimately one point less than Fabi. Fabi was then European champion, Cecotto runner-up.

formula 1

Fabi made his Formula 1 debut at the Brazilian Grand Prix in the 1983 season for the Osella Squadra Corse . He was able to qualify for nine of the fifteen Grand Prix at the start, but retired early in seven races. His rankings were a tenth and an eleventh place in the Grand Prix of Austria and the Grand Prix of the Netherlands . In 1984 he shared his place on the Brabham team with his older brother Teo. Corrado started three times and achieved seventh place in the US Grand Prix, his best overall Formula 1 result. In the same year he competed in several indy car races for Forsythe Racing in the USA . With eleven points, he finished 28th in the drivers' championship at the end of 1984.

For family reasons, Fabi ended his motorsport career in 1985. Since then he has been taking care of his family's company in Milan.
