Belgium

The Belgian Grand Prix was first held in 1925 and has been part of the Formula 1 World Championship since 1950 .

history

The first Belgian Grand Prix in the Formula 1 World Championship took place in 1950 on the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack in the town of Stavelot ( Francorchamps district ) in the Ardennes near Spa and Malmedy near the German border. The Grand Prix was held here 18 times until 1970. The high-speed line with long straights was boycotted in 1969 because it seemed too fast and too unsafe. In 1970 , after modifications, the last Grand Prix for the time being took place on this variant. At the end of the 1970s, a version shortened to around 7 km was built and has been used for Formula 1 races again since 1983 . Due to the necessary construction work on the route, no Belgian Grand Prix was held in the 2006 season.

stretch

From 1972 to 1974 the Belgian Grand Prix was held alternately on the Nivelles-Baulers race course in Nivelles near Brussels and the Zolder circuit near the municipality of Heusden-Zolder in the Limburg province . From 1975 to 1982, and for the last time in 1984 , the Grand Prix was regularly held on the Zolder race track.

Other Events

In 1981 and 1982 , in addition to the Formula 1 races, two Formula 2 races took place in Belgium under the name Grand Prix de Formule 2 Belgique . They were part of the Formula 2 European Championship .

In 1960 and 1961, as a supplement to the Formula 1 world championship races in Belgium, there were also two Formula 1 races without world championship status , which were held in the Belgian capital under the name Grand Prix de Bruxelles .
