The 1974 automobile world championship was the 25th season of the automobile world championship, which is now known as the Formula 1 world championship . Over 15 races were held from January 13, 1974 to October 6, 1974, the drivers' world championship and the International Cup of Formula 1 Constructors .
Emerson Fittipaldi won the Drivers' World Championship for the second time. McLaren became world constructors champions for the first time.
The FIA honorary title Grand Prix of Europe was awarded to the Grand Prix of Germany in 1974 .

The 1st Grande Prêmio Presidente Medici took place on February 3, 1974 - one week after the Brazilian Grand Prix - at the Autódromo Emílio Medici in Brasília . It went over 40 laps of 5.476 km each and had a total distance of 219.03 km.
Eight teams with 12 drivers were registered. Ferrari and Lotus never showed up , McLaren , Tyrrell and Williams only started one car each. With the exception of Hesketh Racing , no customer team competed. The race was won by Emerson Fittipaldi (McLaren) ahead of Jody Scheckter (Tyrrell) and Arturo Merzario (Williams).

The IX. Race of Champions took place on March 17, 1974 at Brands Hatch , UK . It went over 40 laps of 4.206 km each and had a total distance of 168.24 km. The race was advertised for Formula 1 as well as Formula 5000 cars. A total of 25 drivers were registered, nine of them with Formula 5000 cars, all of which were powered by Chevrolet engines. All drivers were qualified. The pole position was driven by James Hunt in the new Hesketh 308 ; Clay Regazzoni ( Ferrari ) started from second place . The best-placed Formula 5000 driver was Peter Gethin , who started the race from position 16. During training, Jochen Mass ( Surtees ) and Jean-Pierre Jarier ( Shadow ) collided with each other; none of them took part in the race. Jacky Ickx ( Lotus ) won the race ahead of Niki Lauda (Ferrari); The best Formula 5000 driver was Ian Ashley , who started from 19th place and finished eighth two laps behind.

The XXVI. BRDC International Trophy took place on April 7, 1974 at the British Silverstone Circuit . She went over 40 laps of 4.7105 km each and had a total distance of 188.42 km. The race was advertised for Formula 1 as well as Formula 5000 cars. A total of 25 drivers were registered, ten of them with Formula 5000 cars, all of which were powered by Chevrolet engines. All drivers were qualified. James Hunt ( Hesketh ) took pole position, set the fastest race lap and won the race. The best-placed Formula 5000 driver was again Peter Gethin , who finished seventh.
