Alex Blignaut

Alex Blignaut (born November 30, 1932 in Johannesburg , † January 15, 2001 in Honeydew , Johannesburg) was a South African racing driver and team boss.

In 1963 Blignaut was registered for the first time in a Formula 1 race, the Rand Grand Prix on the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit , which was not part of the world championship . In a Cooper T53 used by the Valencia team , he was twelfth, four laps behind the winner John Surtees . A year later he was not rated in the same race with six laps behind Graham Hill . At the 1965 South African Grand Prix , Alex Blignaut registered with a Cooper T55 , but withdrew his entry before the race weekend.

In the late 1960s, Blignaut rose as a team boss in the South African Formula 1 championship . The drivers of the "Alex Blignaut Racing Team" included Eddie Keizan and Ian Scheckter . 1973 and 1974 the team with Eddie Keizan took in a Tyrrell 004 at the Grand Prix of South Africa in part.

On January 15, 2001, Blignaut died on his farm when he was electrocuted while repairing a machine .
