In Canada, after a 24th place in the qualification in the race, a 12th place could be achieved. In the USA, Donohue retired from twelfth starting with a damaged suspension.
1975
In the following season , in which the PC1 was also used, Donohue missed several times despite subdued qualifying results just barely a point. In addition to several failures due to accidents or technical defects, he was finally able to get the first points for Penske in Formula 1 at the Swedish Grand Prix with fifth place. He was able to achieve a further fifth place at the Grand Prix of Great Britain , in which a March 751 was used as in the two following races in Germany and Austria . In the warm-up of the Austrian Grand Prix, Mark Donohue had a serious accident and died. For the US Grand Prix he was replaced by John Watson , who - again in PC1 - came in ninth.
1976
1976 was the team's most successful season. John Watson played the entire season. First the Penske PC3 was used, before it was replaced by the Penske PC4 at the Swedish Grand Prix . Watson was able to regularly qualify for front midfield places and get points several times. The best result in qualifying was a second place at the Austrian Grand Prix, which he finally won. Before that, he was able to place third in the races in Great Britain and France ; At the end of the season, the Northern Irishman had 20 points and seventh place in the drivers 'standings and the team fifth in the constructors' standings.
In the same year, the F&S Properties team used a Penske PC3 with Boy Hayje as a driver, who only competed in one race.
Sale to ATS
At the end of the season, Penske sold his Formula 1 team to ATS . Under the direction of Günter Schmid , Jean-Pierre Jarier was able to score a World Championship point in 1977 with the Penske PC4 .
The Interscope Racing team with driver Danny Ongais also competed with the Penske PC4 chassis in their only two races of the season in 1977.
1979 Penske built a Formula 1 car for Héctor Rebaque , which was registered as the Rebaque HR100 . However, he failed twice in three attempts to qualify and once failed to finish the race.
