Lyncar 006

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lyncar 006 was a British Formula 1 racing car that was used from 1974 to 1977.

Development history

In 1973, New Zealand racing driver John Nicholson commissioned Lyncar for a monoposto racing car with which he also wanted to compete in Formula 1 . The Lyncar 006 was a straightforward car with an aluminum monocoque and external brakes. The suspension was taken from the Lyncar 001, with which Nicholson secured the championship title in Formula Atlantic in 1973 .

Racing history

The front section of the racing car went over its entire width and had a small adjustable front wing. Nicholson competed in 1974 with the 006 two races not counting for the World Championship in Great Britain and tried in vain to qualify for the Grand Prix. In 1975 the car had its only use in a world championship run. At the British Grand Prix in Silverstone , Nicholson was classified in 17th place despite an accident in the rain.

In 1976, the Spanish racing driver Emilio de Villota bought the car, which started with the 006 until 1977 in the Aurora AFX Formula 1 series . De Villota won at Mallory Park in 1977 , the only race win of the 006.
