Emilio de Villota (born July 27, 1946 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish automobile racing driver . In 1977 he competed in two Formula 1 Grand Prix. His son Emilio junior and his late daughter María was also a racing driver.

Career

De Villota was registered in fifteen Formula 1 world championship races between 1976 and 1982, but could only qualify twice for the start. In 1976 he joined RAM Racing . 1977 and 1978 he was a McLaren - Ford reported on their own in eight Grands Prix. In 1977 he had his only two races: at the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuito del Jarama , he finished thirteenth and at the Austrian Grand Prix at the Österreichring, he finished seventeenth.

1981 he was on his only Grand Prix with Williams - Ford at the Spanish Grand Prix because of a violation of the Concorde Agreement disabled. In his final season in 1982 he was registered five times for Onyx Racing . The team used a vehicle called the March 821 , which was originally developed for rival racing team RAM Racing . However, de Villota could not qualify for the start in any case.

De Villota's greatest sporting success was winning the championship in the Aurora AFX Formula 1 Series in 1980 , a racing series also known as the British Formula 1 Championship (as opposed to the World Championship).

After the unsuccessful motorsport season in 1982, de Villota ended his Formula 1 career. But he remains connected to motorsport and runs a Formula 3 racing team.
