Larry Perkins (born March 18, 1950 in Murrayville ) is a former Australian racing driver .

Career

Larry Perkins came to Europe , inspired by his compatriot Tim Schenken . His references were successes in the Australian Formula Vau , Formula Ford and Formula 3 series.

In Europe, he finished fifth at the Formula Ford Festival in 1972 and moved to the Formula 3 European Championship in 1973. In 1974 he was involved in Chris Amon's Formula 1 project . The Chris Amon Racing Team gave him a works car for the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring . But Perkins had an accident during training and the massively damaged Amon AF101 could no longer be repaired for the race. However, Perkins was so slow in training that qualifying would have been impossible.

In 1975 Perkins started back in European Formula 3 and became its champion on a Ralt . In 1976 , when he signed with Boro , he still got a Formula 1 commitment and made his debut in Spain in the highest monoposto series. After six races with the defeated Boro racing car, the opportunity arose to really gain a foothold in the series when he replaced Carlos Reutemann at Brabham, who had migrated to Ferrari . But Perkins could not use the chance and found himself in 1977 in Louis Stanley's BRM team. With the BRM P207 he had no opportunity to show his talent and left the team after two races.

After one last unsuccessful attempt at Surtees , Perkins went back to Australia and in 1979 took overall victory in the domestic Formula 5000 championship.

At the end of his career, he founded a touring car team that still competes with vehicles from Holden . Perkins acts as team principal and can bring a lot of experience, having won the Bathurst endurance race six times .
