Johannes "Jan" Lammers (born June 2, 1956 in Zandvoort ) is a Dutch racing car driver and team owner. He competed in 23 Formula 1 races, was the winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Daytona 24 Hours, as well as the owner of the A1 team in the Netherlands .

Career

After Lammers won the championship of the European Formula 3 series in 1978 , he succeeded in entering Formula 1 in the British team Shadow the following year . After a moderate season in the defeated Shadow DN9 without championship points, Lammers played the 1980 and 1981 seasons for the German team ATS . However, this team was also not competitive and Lammers was mostly unable to qualify for the race and did not finish in the points. In 1982 Lammers was finally registered for six Grand Prix in Team Theodore from Hong Kong, but he only managed to qualify for the race, which he could not finish because of an engine problem.

After these disappointing four years in Formula 1, Lammers switched to the US Champ Car series and a short time later to the sports car scene .

The highlight of his motorsport career was winning the Le Mans 24 Hours together with Andy Wallace and Johnny Dumfries in 1988. Lammers was behind the wheel of the Jaguar XJR-9 LM for 13 of the 24 hours .

In 1990 Lammers won the Daytona 24 Hours together with Davy Jones and Andy Wallace in a Jaguar XJR-12 .

In the 1992 season , Lammers surprisingly made a comeback in Formula 1 with the British racing team March . There he replaced the Austrian Karl Wendlinger for the last two races of the season. Lammers already had a contract with March for the upcoming 1993 season. However, since the team became insolvent, he could not contest the season, which ended his Formula 1 career for good. In 1993 he drove a few races in Formula 3000 instead , but his team Il Barone Rampante was also poorly financed, so that it ceased operations after the first half of the season.

In 1994 Lammers took part in a Volvo 850 in the British Touring Car Championship , which he finished in 14th place overall.

In 1999 Lammers founded his own racing team, Racing for Holland , in which he competed in the FIA sports car championship. Since 2005 he has also been the owner of the A1 team in the Netherlands.

Lammers also took part in all three races of the Grand Prix Masters , with his best result being seventh at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar .

In 2017 Lammers competed again in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his own racing team, Racing for Holland . His teammates were Frits van Eerd and the former Formula 1 Vice World Champion Rubens Barrichello . They finished the race in 14th place in the overall classification.
