The ORECA 01 is a Le Mans prototype developed by ORECA and used since 2009 . It is based on the Courage-ORECA LC70 .

history

The new ORECA made its debut at the second round of the 2009 Le Mans Series in Spa-Francorchamps . At the start of the season in Barcelona, ORECA started with a slightly modified LC70 . Between this race and the debut, the two LC70 chassis used were converted to the ORECA 01. Since the changes were so massive, the vehicle was re-homologated and given a new name accordingly. Right off the bat, Nicolas Lapierre and Olivier Panis finished fourth in the 1000 km race in Spa. The second car was badly damaged in an accident by Bruno Senna . Senna, Stéphane Ortelli and Tiago Monteiro thus received a new vehicle for the Le Mans 24-hour race , but the car had to be abandoned with a technical defect. The older car in the hands of Lapierre, Panis and Soheil Ayari, however, finished fifth overall. In the Algarve, however, Senna and Monteiro exceeded their best result to date and finished the 1000 km run on the podium. The race at the Nürburgring was skipped in favor of the Petit Le Mans at the end of the year. In addition, ORECA only appeared with one vehicle at the last championship round of the Le Mans Series at Silverstone. Lapierre and Panis drove the ORECA 01 to its first overall win of the season. At the end of the American Le Mans Series season in Road Atlanta , Romain Dumas was registered alongside Nicolas Lapierre and Olivier Panis . The works teams from Audi and Peugeot also competed on the rainy Petit Le Mans race weekend . Due to the onset of heavy rain, the race had to be stopped prematurely, the ORECA driver trio was classified in fifth place, behind the four diesel vehicles of the works teams, but as the best prototype with a petrol engine ahead of the championship - leading Acura ARX-02 . The Silverstone car, on the other hand, was brought to Japan at the end of the year to take part in the two 500 km races of the Asian Le Mans Series . Lapierre and Loïc Duval finished both championship races on the podium and the season in third place of the only two races championship.
