Developed by Peugeot Sport , the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP was first presented as a model at the Paris Motor Show in September 2006 and rolled out on December 31st.
When it was first used in the Le Mans 24-hour race in 2007 , one of the two Peugeot 908s entered took second place, the other vehicle retired. In the 2008 Le Mans 24-hour race, the car driven by Jacques Villeneuve , Marc Gené and Nicolas Minassian took second place. Third place went to the car with Christian Klien , Franck Montagny and Ricardo Zonta . The car with Stéphane Sarrazin , Pedro Lamy and Alexander Wurz , which started from pole position, only crossed the finish line in fifth place after transmission problems.
In 2009 , the Peugeot Sport Total team, led by drivers David Brabham , Marc Gené and Alexander Wurz, won the Le Mans 24-hour race with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP; in the following year , all four vehicles were out of action. Only one HDi FAP from the Oreca team took part in the 2011 race , as the Peugeot works team was using the new Peugeot 908 .

Results and chassis numbers
A total of ten vehicles of the 908 HDi FAP were produced. However, the first vehicle with the chassis number 01 was never used in racing. After various tests, it was last used in 2007 in the Le Mans Series pre-tests at the Circuit Paul Ricard . Two of the seven Peugeot 908 HDi FAPs were badly damaged during an operation. Marc Gené had an accident with vehicle 02 during the pre-test of the 2008 24-hour race, Benoît Tréluyer during his first race in a Peugeot in 2009. Both vehicles have not yet been used in a race after their accidents.
Others
In 2006, Peugeot developed the study of a luxury class sedan with the designation Peugeot 908 RC , which was presented together with the sports car prototype and which also had visual and technical characteristics.
