The 77th 24-hour race of Le Mans , the 77 e Grand Prix d'Endurance les 24 Heures du Mans , also 24 Heures du Mans, Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans , took place from 13 to 14 June 2009 on the Circuit des 24 Heures .

The race

The race was organized by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and started on June 13th at 3pm. The race was attended by 234,800 spectators.

Peugeot won the race on its third participation in the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP with drivers David Brabham , Marc Gené and Alexander Wurz . Second place was taken by another Peugeot. Audi , having won eight times in the previous nine years, had to admit defeat. The best-placed Audi R15 TDI was in third place at the end of the race. In the LMP2 class, the Essex team won the Porsche RS Spyder . At the end of the race, Corvette Racing was ahead in the GT1 class, while Risi Competizione in the Ferrari F430 won the GT2 class.

1 Narain Karthikeyan dislocated his shoulder in a fall from the pit wall shortly before the start and was unable to take part. André Lotterer and Charles Zwolsman junior therefore had to contest the race as a team of two.

2 Stuart Hall was disqualified by the race management after causing an accident with a Radical which caused it to be out of the race. Harold Primat and Peter Kox therefore had to continue as a team of two until they dropped out.
