Rinaldo "Dindo" Capello (born June 17, 1964 in Asti ) is a former Italian racing driver .
Career
Rinaldo Capello began his motorsport career in 1976 as a kart pilot in Italy. The Piedmontese competed in a few monoposto races, such as in the Italian Formula Fiat Abarth Cup, but he achieved his great success in touring and racing cars .
In 1990 he won the Italian super touring car championship in a VW Golf , a success he was able to repeat in 1996 with an Audi A4. In 1998 he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . In 1999 he became a works driver at Audi in Le Mans and achieved fourth place in the overall standings when he raced the R8 for the first time . For a few years it seemed that Capello was always in the wrong car at Le Mans when it came to overall victory. Only when he got into the car with serial winner Tom Kristensen in 2003 - the VW subsidiary Bentley represented the group on the Sarthe with the Speed 8 - the tide turned. Capello celebrated his first Le Mans victory and followed a year later with the second overall victory.
In 2008 he achieved a victory with the new diesel Audi R10 TDI on the third attempt. After finishing third in 2006, a serious accident in the Indianapolis curve in 2007 stopped leading Capello on his way to possible victory on Sunday morning when the Audi R10 lost a wheel.
In addition to his victories at Le Mans, he was also successful five times in the Sebring 12-hour races and secured the drivers' title of the American Le Mans Series in 2006 and 2007 .
In 2005 he contested a full season in the DTM , but his results fell short of expectations.
