The 2008 Silverstone 1000 km race , also known as Autosport 1000km of Silverstone, Silverstone , took place on September 14th at the Silverstone Circuit and was the fifth and final round of the Le Mans Series of this year.

The race

When long-distance race at Silverstone the ten races lasting winning streak ended the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP rigid truck chassis. In the 20-minute qualifying session, Stéphane Sarrazin drove to his second pole position of the year in the number 7 Peugeot. With a lap time of 1: 30.359 minutes, he finished his fastest lap 11/1000 seconds behind his team-mate Nicolas Minassian , who completed the front row. Jos Verstappen achieved the best time in the LMP2 category in the Porsche RS Spyder . All the best times in his class this season went to the Dutchman. With a lap time of 1: 34.212 minutes, Verstappen also qualified in the midfield of the LMP1 vehicles. The fastest laps in the two GT classes were driven by Peter Kox in a Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT and Rob Bell in a Ferrari F430 GTC .

The race was marked by collisions between the Peugeot and Audi prototypes. Already at the start, Allan McNish in the Audi R10 TDI and Nicolas Minassian in the Peugeot collided . Minassian spun and had to line up at the bottom of the field, while McNish stayed in second place behind leader Pedro Lamy in the second Peugeot. At the pit stop before the end of the first hour of the race, the Audi driver took the lead past Lamy. Minassian, who had meanwhile worked his way up to third place after the spin at the start of the race, collided with Richard Lietz's Porsche 997 GT3 RSR while lapping. Both vehicles were irreparably damaged and had to be parked. After the safety car phase, Rinaldo Capello and Stéphane Sarrazin collide . As a result of the second accident between the two cars in this race, Sarrazin had to go to the pit for a half-hour repair, while Capello was able to continue immediately after changing tires. Due to the accident, Alexandre Prémat was in the lead in the second Audi. As the race continued, Capello and McNish were able to catch up with the sister vehicle and overtake it one hour before the end of the race. Shortly afterwards, the now second-placed Prémat had to pit with problems with the suspension. He was able to continue after a brief stop, but fell back to fourth place due to a subsequent stop-and-go penalty due to excessive speed in the pit lane.
