Tim Sugden (born April 26, 1964 in Bradford ) is a British racing car driver .

Career

Tim Sugden began his racing career in 1986 in the British Formula Ford Championship . When he tried to gain a foothold in the Formula Renault championship in Great Britain in 1990 , he had already spent four seasons in Formula Ford and failed to make a breakthrough in monoposto racing. He therefore switched to touring car racing . In 1990 he entered the British touring car championship and celebrated his first race win in his second season.

After two seasons with little sporting success as a Toyota works driver, Sudgen's career seemed to be over in 1995 and from 1996 he initially only drove car races in one-make cups. His career took off when he switched to sports car racing in 1997 and immediately won the GT2 championship in the British GT championship . He already surpassed this success in 1998 when he secured the GT1 championship title at the end of the year in a McLaren F1 from Gulf Team Davidoff. In the same year he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans , which he finished with a surprising fourth place in the overall standings.

Sugden has been one of the busiest sports car drivers since the early 2000s. He drove and drives in almost all sports car racing series in the world. In addition to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he also took part in the Le Mans Series , the American Le Mans Series and the FIA GT Championship . In recent years he has also competed in races in the US Grand-Am Sports Car Series and in the Asian Porsche Carrera Cup .
