Jim Matthews (born March 19, 1961 in Durham ) is a former American car racing driver and racing team owner.

Racing career

Jim Matthews began his career in US sports car racing in the mid-1990s . He had his first international outing at the Daytona 24-hour race in 1995 . The mission ended in failure. In 1997 he became a full-time racing driver and joined the IMSA GT series with his own racing team, Jim Matthews Racing . The emergency vehicle was a Porsche 993 and the best place was sixth in the 1:45 hour race in Lima Rock . Teammate was David Murry , with whom he contested all races of the season. After another year in the racing series, this time on a Riley & Scott Mk III , Matthews switched to the American Le Mans Series in 1999 with a Ferrari 333SP .

For the 2000 season, Matthews signed a cooperation with the Swedish racing driver Stefan Johansson . The team started this year under the name Johansson-Matthews Racing. In 2000 he made his driver debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans , where he competed five times. In all five missions he was never able to place in the final classification. The track record at the Sebring 12-hour race is better . In 2002 he finished third overall with Guy Smith and Marc Goossens on a Riley & Scott Mk IIIC. By the end of his driving career in 2010, he had contested 96 sports car races, celebrating two overall and two class wins.
