Marc Goossens (born November 30, 1969 in Lommel ) is a Belgian racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Marc Goossens, known as The Goose by his fellow racing drivers , was the Belgian karting champion several times in the late 1980s before starting monoposto racing in 1989 . He spent the first years of his career in Formula Ford ; In 1991 he secured overall victory in the British championship. In 1992 he switched to Formula 3 and in 1993 finished the British championship in third place behind Kelvin Burt and Oliver Gavin .

Between 1994 and 2001 Goossens was active in the International Formula 3000 Championship . Twice, in 1995 (behind Vincenzo Sospiri and Ricardo Rosset , tied on points with Kenny Bräck ) and in 1996 (behind Jörg Müller and Bräck), he was third overall in this championship.

Goossens started in the Formula Nippon and in the NASCAR Sprint Cup . However, he achieved his greatest successes in sports cars. Between 1996 and 2015 he competed in 222 GT and sports car races; He celebrated 20 overall and 9 class wins. He scored his first victory in 1997 at the Zolder 24-hour race (partners Patrick Huisman and Vincent Vosse ); his last so far in the 3-hour race at the Nürburgring 2012 , a race of the Blancpain Endurance Series 2012 . In between there were appearances in the European and American Le Mans Series , the FIA GT Championship and in national GT and sports car races.

He made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1996 ; his best place in the final ranking was fourth in 1997 . When 12-hour race at Sebring he drove in 2002 a third.
