Marco Holzer (born July 30, 1988 in Bobingen ) is a German automobile racing driver .

Career

Holzer began his motorsport career in 1997 in karting , which he practiced until 2003. In 2004, the young gun moved to the German Formula BMW in order in the single-seater racing . Starting for AM-Holzer Rennsport he finished 20th in the overall ranking. In 2005 he contested his second season in the German Formula BMW and qualified with 13th place overall for the Formula BMW World Final, which he won from pole position ahead of Sébastien Buemi and Nico Hülkenberg . In 2006 Holzer entered the German Formula BMW again and won three races. At the end of the season he finished third in the overall ranking behind champions Christian Vietoris and Mika Mäki .

In 2007 Holzer stayed with AM-Holzer Rennsport and switched to the Formula 3 Euro Series . His best finish was seventh. He couldn't score any points and finished 19th overall at the end of the season. In 2008 Holzer turned his back on formula racing and switched to GT racing. He started in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany for the UPS-Porsche-Junior-Team and finished fifth with a race win. He also drove in six races of the Porsche Supercup . With the early end of the junior program, Holzer received a cockpit at Prospeed Competition in the FIA GT Championship in 2009 . He started in a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR in the GT2 class and finished eighth in this category with a class win in the last race. As a junior works driver, he also competed in selected championship races in various GT series for Porsche. Among other things, the Asian Le Mans Series which he finished on the podium in the GT2 class.

In 2010 the German won the 24-hour race in Dubai for IMSA Performance Matmut, together with Porsche works driver Patrick Pilet and team principal Raymond Narac . For the rest of the season, Holzer returned to Prospeed Competition , which is now starting in the Le Mans Series .

Holzer has already had experience in a Formula 1 car, as he completed Formula 1 test drives for BMW Sauber in 2006 as a reward for winning the Formula BMW World Final .

His last active season so far was in 2016, when he competed in the ADAC GT Masters, among other things .

Since August 2019 he has been active again in the ADAC GT Masters for the Ironforce by RingPolice team together with Lucas Luhr and Jan-Erik Slooten
