Flying Lizard Motorsports is a motorsport team based out of Sonoma , California . The team was founded by Seth Neiman in early 2003 to take part in the American Le Mans Series .

history

The team achieved second place in the GT2 class in 2004 in the driver and team standings.

In 2006 the team took part in the entire ALMS season with two 996 Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs with starting numbers 44 and 45. A fourth place in the GT2 class was also achieved at the 24 Hours of Le Mans .

At the beginning of the 2007 season, the team switched to the next generation Porsche 911, the 997. The drivers were Johannes van Overbeek , Jörg Bergmeister and Marc Lieb in the car with the number 45. Darren Law , Seth Neiman and Lonnie Pechnik shared the car 44. The car 45 achieved three victories and finished second in the team standings behind Risi Competizione . Jörg Bergmeister and Johannes van Overbeek also achieved second place in the drivers' championship.

The 2008 season was contested with three cars. The additional vehicle was driven by Johannes van Overbeek, Patrick Pilet and Richard Lietz . Wolf Henzler filled the free space in car 45 . Together with Jörg Bergmeister, the first overall victory for Flying Lizard Motorsports was achieved.

In 2009 the team only entered two cars. The Auto 45 was driven by Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long . After finishing third with a badly damaged car at the season opener in Sebring , they won the following five races in their class. The competition then grew significantly stronger when Rahal Letterman Racing competed with their BMW M3 GT2 and Pratt & Miller with their new Corvette .
