Sylvia Rose

Sylvia Rose or Silvia Rose (born December 23, 1962 in Barth as Sylvia Müller ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic , who became an Olympic champion in the four-wheeler with helmswoman in 1988 .

From 1980 Sylvia Müller was the helmsman for the four and eight at SC Berlin-Grünau . While she took second and third places at GDR championships several times in eighth, she was GDR champion in 1980, 1982 and from 1986 to 1988 in four. In 1986 she finished second at the World Championships in Nottingham together with Kerstin Spittler , Beatrix Schröer , Corinna Scheid and Carola Lichey . In 1987 she drove Carola Hornig , Gerlinde Doberschütz , Martina Walther and Birte Siech to the runner-up in the world championship behind the Romanians. In the same line-up as in 1987, the boat won the GDR championships in 1988. Shortly before the Olympic Games in Seoul , Sylvia Müller married and competed as Sylvia Rose in the Olympic regatta. The boat from the GDR won ahead of the four from China and the Romanian world champions.

In 1988 Sylvia Rose was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold.
