In 1984, Silvia Fröhlich and Marita Gasch became GDR champions in the two-way class

Silvia Fröhlich (born Silvia Arndt on February 24, 1959 in Leipzig ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1980 she won the Olympic medal in a four with a helmsman .

As a student of dentistry, she joined the SC DHfK Leipzig and trained with Herta Weissig. In 1979 she rowed in the GDR eighth at the World Championships in Bled and won the silver medal. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, she was in the Leipzig foursome, which won Olympic gold with Ramona Kapheim , Silvia Fröhlich, Angelika Noack , Romy Saalfeld and taxwoman Kirsten Wenzel just over a second ahead of the Bulgarians. For this sporting success she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. She also received this medal in 1984. At the 1981 World Cup, the four-man with Viola Kestler for Ramona Kapheim and Marita Sandig for Angelika Noack took second place behind the Soviet boat.

In 1982 Marita Sandig and Silvia Fröhlich switched to the uncontrolled two and won the title at the World Championships on the Rotsee . In 1983 Marita Gasch (-Sandig) and Silvia Fröhlich were able to defend the title in Duisburg. In 1984 the two won the GDR championship and the Rotsee regatta, where they also beat the later Olympic champions Rodica Arba and Elena Horvat from Romania. At the 1984 Olympics Gasch and Cheerful were due to the Olympic boycott not participate.

After her career, Silvia Fröhlich finished her studies and became a dentist.
