Nicola Coles

Nicola "Nicky" Anne Coles (born January 7, 1972 in Auckland ) is a former New Zealand rower . In 2005 she won the world championship in two without a helmsman .

Athletic career

The 1.78 m tall Nicola Coles took seventh place with eighth at the 1998 World Championships . 1999 in St. Catharines the New Zealand eighth missed the Olympic qualification with eighth place.

In 2001 Coles rowed in a foursome without a helmsman . At the World Championships in Lucerne , Jackie Abraham-Lawrie , Kate Robinson , Rochelle Saunders and Nicola Coles won the silver medal behind the Australians. The following year, Mel Burke , Paula Twining , Jackie Abraham-Lawrie and Nicola Coles took fourth place at the World Championships in Seville . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Coles and Juliette Haigh competed in two without a helmsman and finished sixth.

In 2005 the two New Zealanders won the World Cups in Munich and Lucerne and they also won the title at the 2005 World Rowing Championships in Japan. In 2006, fourth place in Lucerne was the best World Cup result for the two of them, and at the 2006 World Rowing Championships in Eton they took second place behind Canadians Darcy Marquardt and Jane Rumball . In 2007 Haigh and Coles won the World Cup in Lucerne, but only achieved fifth place at the 2007 World Rowing Championships in Munich. A year later, the two also took fifth place at the Olympic Games in Beijing .
