Theresa Luke

Theresa Anne Luke (born February 20, 1967 in Vancouver ) is a former Canadian rower . She won the Olympic silver medal in 1996 and the Olympic bronze medal in eighth place in 2000 .

Athletic career

The 1.80 m tall Theresa Luke was discovered at Simon Fraser University for rowing by former Olympic rower Richard McClure . She only made her debut at world championships at the age of 27, when she finished seventh at the 1994 world championships with a Canadian eighth. In 1995 the boat reached the sixth place. At the 1996 Olympic Games, the Romanians won by a clear margin, behind them the Canadians won the silver medal with just under four tenths of a second ahead of the Belarusians.

After the 1996 Olympic Games, Theresa Luke switched to the Canadian quadruple scull, with which she reached sixth place at the 1997 World Championships . In 1998 she and Maria Maunder finished eleventh in a double scull at the World Championships . In 1999 Luke started in two boat classes in the Rowing World Cup : Together with Emma Robinson , she formed a new pair without a helmsman , both rowers also belonged to the Canadian eight. In the World Cup, the two won two in Vienna and Lucerne and finished third with eighth. The 1999 World Championships took place in front of a home crowd in St. Catharines , and the Canadian eighth took third place again behind the Romanians and the US rowers. In two, Robinson and Luke won the only title for Canada at the 1999 World Championships. Robinson and Luke also competed in both boat classes at the 2000 Olympic Games . After a fourth place in two, they won the bronze medal with the Canadian eight.

At the age of 33, Theresa Luke ended her athletic career and became a trainer.
