Natallja Helach

Natallja Mikalajeuna Helach ( Belarusian Наталля Мікалаеўна Гелах , Russian Наталья Николаевна Гелах / Natalya Nikolaevna Gelach; * the thirtieth May 1978 in Brest , Belarusian SSR ) is a Belarusian rower who won two medals at three Olympic appearances.

Athletic career

Natallja Helach won her first World Cup regatta in 2000 with the eighth . At the World Championships in 2000 , Helach won her first world championship in the non-Olympic boat class of four without a helmsman . Seven weeks later she finished fourth at the Olympic Games in Sydney with the Belarusian eighth. At the 2001 World Championships in Lucerne , Natallja Helach competed in two disciplines: with the four without a helmsman she came in sixth place, with the eighth she took fifth place.

In 2002 Natallja Helach moved to Julija Bitschyk in the two without a helmsman, the two won the bronze medal behind the Romanians and the Canadian duo at the World Championships in Seville . In the 2003 World Cup regattas, the Romanians won once, the British women once and the Canadians once, Bitschyk and Helach were fourth and twice second. At the World Championships in Milan, the British won ahead of the two Belarusians and the Romanians. In the 2004 Olympic season, Helach competed in the World Cup in two without a helmsman and in eight, at the Olympic Games in Athens Bitschyk and Helach started in two and won the bronze medal behind the two Romanian world champions from 2002 and the British world champions from 2003.

At the 2005 World Championships in Gifu , Natallja Helach started in two without a helmsman and in eight, but could not take part in the finals. In the following year Helach took fourth place in the four without helmsman and eleventh place in eight at the World Championships in Eton . In 2007 Natallja Helach and Julija Bitschyk formed the Belarusian two-man without a helmsman. At the World Championships in Munich, the two won ahead of the German duo and the Romanian Olympic champions. In the 2008 World Cup, the two Belarusians came in fifth and seventh. At the world championships on the non-Olympic routes , the two won together with Hanna Nachajewa and Wolha Shtscharbatschenja in a four-man team without a helmsman. At the Olympic Games in Beijing the Romanians Georgeta Andrunache and Viorica Susanu won ahead of a Chinese two-man, Bitschyk and Helach received the bronze medal as in 2004. At the end of the 2008 season, Helach and Bitschyk won the European championship bronze with the Belarusian eighth.

After a break in 2009, Natallja Helach returned in 2010. At the European Championships she won with the four-man without a helmsman and finished sixth with the eighth, at the World Championships in Bled she started with Julija Bitschyk in a two-man without a helmswoman, but the two only finished eleventh. At the end of the 2011 season, Bitschyk and Helach won two silver medals at the European Championships . In 2012, Bitschyk and Helach tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in London in Lucerne, which neither succeeded in the two without a helmsman nor in the eight. At her last international regatta at the 2012 European Championships , Helach finished fourth with eighth.
