Annegret Strauch
Annegret Strauch (born December 1, 1968 in Radebeul ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1988 she won the Olympic gold medal in eighth place .
Annegret Strauch from SC Einheit Dresden won the 1986 GDR Junior Championship in double sculls and received bronze at the Junior World Championships . In 1987 she moved to eighth and took third place in the GDR championship in this boat class. In 1988 she sat in the eighth national team with Judith Zeidler , Kathrin Haacker , Ute Wild , Anja Kluge , Ramona Balthasar , Beatrix Schröer , Ute Stange and taxwoman Daniela Neunast . This newly composed crew won the final of the Olympic rowing regatta in Seoul in front of the boats from Romania and China. For this victory she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold. Together with Ute Wagner-Stange, Strauch switched to the four without a helmsman in 1989 . Together with Ina Justh and Christiane Harzendorf, they both won the World Championships in Bled. The last major appearance of the GDR national rowing team was the 1990 World Cup in Tasmania. Strauch, Wagner-Stange and Harzendorf sat in the figure eight and received bronze again.
After the reunification , Annegret Strauch moved from Dresden to the Saar-Undine Saarbrücken rowing club . In 1991 she finished fifth at the world championship with the German eighth. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, she appeared again in eighth place and won the bronze medal. For this she was honored with the silver bay leaf .
