Rodica Maria Șerban (born May 26, 1983 in Rădăuți , Romania ; birth name Rodica Maria Florea ) is a former Romanian rower . She was Olympic champion in 2004 and is three times European champion .

Career

Șerban was able to celebrate her first international successes under her maiden name Florea between 1999 and 2001 when she won three medals at the junior world championships. At the age of 18 she was also used at the World Championships in Lucerne , where she finished seventh in the four without a helmsman . Then she aspired to the successful Romanian women's eighth and finished there in 2002 4th place. In the following year, however, she could not place eighth, instead she started in the double fours and finished 10th, and she also won gold in the U23 world championships Two without a helmsman . She returned to eighth position at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and won the gold medal together with Ioana Rotaru , Viorica Susanu , Aurica Bărăscu , Liliana Gafencu , Elisabeta Lipă , Georgeta Andrunache , Doina Ignat and helmsman Elena Georgescu .

After the games, many of the very successful Romanian rowers of the Goldachters ended their careers, since apart from Șerban and Rotaru they had already been active in rowing for many years. As a result, gehörerban consistently belonged to the Romanian eighth in the following years and won silver medals at the 2005 and 2007 World Championships . At the same time, she started in another boat class at the World Championships in 2005 and 2006 , which is usually only done by very strong rowers. At the 2008 Summer Olympics , Șerban focused again on eighth and won the bronze medal in Beijing behind the USA and the Netherlands. In addition, she achieved two successes with eighth at the newly introduced European Rowing Championships in 2007 and 2008 .

With the bronze medal from Beijing Șerban ended her international rowing career. In 2012, before the next Olympic Games , she reappeared and qualified for the Romanian women's eighth at the start of the season. He had meanwhile won several World Cup medals and all European championships since 2007. However, Șerban did not make the leap into the team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, but she was involved again in the 2012 European Championship victory of the Romanian eight in Varese.

Șerban started for the Olimpia Bucharest CS association . At a height of 1.83 m, she had a competition weight of 74 kg.
