Viola Goretzki

Viola Goretzki (born November 23, 1956 in Zwickau ) is a former rower from the GDR. In 1976 she was Olympic champion in eighth .

Goretzki, who started for SG Dynamo Potsdam , won the 1972 Spartakiade in eight and double fours. In 1975 she won the GDR championship in a racing community with rowers from Potsdam, Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden. This boat then won the title at the World Cup in Nottingham in 1975 with the cast of Doris Mosig , Rosel Nitsche , Renate Neu , Monika Kallies , Bianka Schwede , Ilona Richter , Christiane Knetsch , Viola Goretzki and helmswoman Marina Wilke .

A year later, the GDR eighth in the line-up was Viola Goretzki, Christiane Knetsch, Ilona Richter, Brigitte Ahrenholz , Monika Kallies, Henrietta Ebert , Helma Lehmann , Irina Müller , and Marina Wilke was again the helmsman. This team won the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal with a three-second lead over the Soviet Union. For this success she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

After the Olympic victory, Goretzki ended her career and married the Olympic rowing champion Bernd Landvoigt . Viola Landvoigt later worked as a certified teacher for German and history.
