Kate Hornsey

Kate Hornsey (born October 19, 1981 in Hobart ) is a former Australian rower . She won three world titles and an Olympic silver medal.

Athletic career

At the U23 world regatta in 2003, Hornsey won the silver medal in a four-man without a helmsman . In 2005 she took part in the world championships in the adult class for the first time and immediately won two titles, the one in the four without a helmsman and one in the eight . At the Rowing World Championships in Eton in 2006 , Hornsey also competed in two boat classes: She again won the title in the four and received the bronze medal with the eight. In 2007 Hornsey started at the World Championships in Munich only in eighth, with which she finished fourth. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , the Australian eighth finished sixth.

After a year break, Kate Hornsey rowed again in the foursome at the 2010 World Championships and won the silver medal behind the Dutch boat. At the 2011 World Championships , she again competed in two boat classes: Together with Sarah Tait , she won the bronze medal in the two without helmsman behind the boats from New Zealand and the United Kingdom. With Peta White , Renee Chatterton and Pauline Frasca she won silver behind the US boat in a four-man. Since the four-man is not an Olympic boat class, Hornsey competed at the 2012 Olympic Games in London with Tait in a two-man, the Australians won silver behind the British and ahead of the world champions from New Zealand. Kate Hornsey ended her international rowing career after the 2014 World Championships , where she finished tenth with the Australian eighth.

1.74 m tall Kate Hornsey rowed for the New Norfolk Rowing Club and later for the Melbourne Mercantile Rowing Club .
