Iuliana Popa

Iuliana Popa (born July 5, 1996 in Comăneşti ) is a Romanian rower .

Athletic career

Iuliana Popa started rowing in 2009. At the Junior World Championships in 2012 , she won the title with the Romanian eighth . At the Junior World Championships in 2013 she finished sixth with a double scull, and at the Junior World Championships in 2014 she finished fifth with a double scull. In 2015 she started in the adult class at the 2015 World Championships and finished in seventh place with eighth, and fourth in the 2016 European Championships with eighth.

Iuliana Popa was nominated as a substitute rower for the 2016 Olympic Games . After Irina Dorneanu was banned for doping shortly before the games , Popa moved up to eighth. At the Olympic Regatta in Rio de Janeiro, the Romanian eighth in the line-up Roxana Cogianu , Ioana Strungaru , Mihaela Petrilă , Iuliana Popa, Mădălina Bereş , Laura Oprea , Adelina Boguş , Andreea Boghian and helmsman Daniela Druncea won the bronze medal behind the United World Champion States and the European Champions from the United Kingdom. At the end of May 2017, the Romanian eighth won the gold medal at the European Championships . After winning the World Cup finals in Lucerne, the boat also won the World Championships in Sarasota at the end of the season . In August 2018 Popa defended the title in eighth place at the European Championships . At the World Championships , the Romanian eighth finished fifth. In 2019, the Romanian eighth won the title ahead of the British women at the European Championships in Lucerne.
