Chapel Alt Disgrace
The Protestant Chapel Alt Ungnade is a sacred building in Alt Ungnade , a district of the Levenhagen municipality in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
history
Ernst von Haselberg points out in his notes that a chapel in Alt Ungnade was mentioned for the first time in 1442 . However, there are no more traces of this building. It must have completely fallen into disrepair in 1850 because the building inspector at the Royal University of Greifswald , Carl August Peter Menzel , was commissioned to build a new building that year. The Schinkel student then built a building from red brick in the style of the Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler . In the 21st century it is used as a depot by the University of Greifswald.
architecture
The building was constructed from reddish brick with a rectangular floor plan. The north and south sides of the chapel were structured with four pilaster strips that form three wall fields in which there were large, rectangular windows. These are clogged in the 21st century. The fields are additionally decorated with a stair frieze in the upper area . The corners of the building are also emphasized by pilaster strips. The east side is kept extremely simple: there is only a round window in the gable and a frieze at the transition to the gable roof . The west portal consists of a large, rectangular wooden door with two axially symmetrical, significantly smaller (and also clogged) windows. Above the portal there is a triple-stepped pointed arch cover. In the gable there is a round window and a small gable tower with an ogival decoration.
Today the pinnacles that emphasized the four corners of the chapel and the upper part of the gable tower are no longer there .
