Lucy Spoors

Lucy Spoors (born December 24, 1990 ) is a New Zealand rower .

Career

Lucy Spoors began rowing at college in Christchurch in 2005 and has been a member of the Canterbury Rowing Club ever since . At the Junior World Championships 2007 she reached sixth place with the double foursome , at the Junior World Championships in 2008 she won with the foursome without a helmsman . In 2009 she took part in the U23 World Championships for the first time and finished fourth with a double scull, followed by tenth place in 2010. At the 2010 World Championships , Lucy Spoors competed in the adult class for the first time and together with Genevieve Behrent , Alexandra Burnside and Zoe Stevenson took fourth and last place in the non-Olympic boat class of four without helmswoman. In 2011 she took fourth place with the double foursome at the U23 World Championships, in 2012 the New Zealanders won bronze with Olivia Loe , Genevieve Behrent, Lucy Spoors and Linda Matthews .

In 2014 Spoors achieved third place in the World Cup twice with the double scull . At the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam, the New Zealand double foursome finished fifth. A year later at the 2015 World Championships , the New Zealanders narrowly missed direct Olympic qualification with sixth place. At the last qualifying regatta in Lucerne in 2016, the New Zealand double-scull took third place, only the first two were qualified.

In 2017 Lucy Spoors switched to the New Zealand eight . The eighth won the World Cup in Poznan and finished second in the World Cup final in Lucerne. At the 2017 World Championships in Sarasota, the boat from Romania won ahead of the Canadians and New Zealanders. In 2018 she finished eighth in second place in Linz-Ottensheim and won in Lucerne. At the World Championships in Plovdiv , the New Zealanders rowed to seventh place. The following year they finished fourth at the World Cup in Poznan and won in Rotterdam. In Linz-Ottensheim at the 2019 World Championships , the New Zealanders won ahead of the Australians and the boat from the United States.

Lucy Spoors holds a degree in Linguistics from Massey University .
