Silke Günther

Silke Günther (born December 29, 1976 in Berlin ) is a former German rower .

Career

Günther's international career began at the Junior World Championships in 1994 when she won the title with the eighth. In 1996 she took third place in a two-man without a helmsman at the U23 World Championships . From 1997 she belonged to the German women's eight , with whom she finished fifth at the 1997 World Championships . In 1998 and 1999 the eighth took sixth place. At the 2001 World Championships , Günther finished third with eighth place. In 2002 the German women's eight won all three regattas in the rowing world cup , and at the world championships the boat received the bronze medal as in the previous year. In 2003, the German women's eight finished second in the rowing World Cup twice, but won the gold medal at the World Championships in Milan . In the 2004 season, the eighth finished first, third and sixth in the World Cup regattas and reached fifth place at the Olympic Games in Athens . After finishing sixth with eighth at the 2005 World Championships , she was no longer a German women's eighth in 2006 for the first time since 1997.

At the 2007 World Championships , Silke Günther won the silver medal with the four-man without a helmsman. At the European Championships in 2007 she rowed again in the women's eight and also won a silver medal here. In 2010 she returned to the German women's eight again, she won the bronze medal at the European Championships and finished seventh at the World Championships .

The rower from East Berlin started for the rowing community Rotation Berlin . From 1997 to 2003 she won seven German championship titles in a row with eighth place . In addition, there were further championship titles in the four-man without a tax woman (1998, 2002, 2010) and in the two-man without a tax woman (2002, 2003). The 1.76 m tall rower also started in the later years of her career for the Mainz rowing club from 1878 and the Heidelberg rowing club .
