Monika Kallies

Monika Kallies (born July 31, 1956 in Stralsund , after marriage: Monika Leschhorn ) is a former rower from the GDR . She won Olympic gold in eighth place in 1976 .

Monika Kallies from SC Dynamo Berlin took second place at the GDR championships in 1974 together with Irina Müller . In 1975, Kallies moved to eighth, who won the World Championships in Nottingham with Doris Mosig , Rosel Nitsche , Renate Neu , Monika Kallies, Bianka Schwede , Ilona Richter , Christiane Knetsch , Viola Goretzki and taxwoman Marina Wilke .

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, women's rowing had its Olympic premiere. The boats from the GDR won four gold medals and two silver medals in the six boat classes. The eighth competed in the line-up Irina Müller, Helma Lehmann , Henrietta Ebert , Monika Kallies, Brigitte Ahrenholz , Ilona Richter, Christiane Knetsch, Viola Goretzki and Marina Wilke and won with three seconds ahead of the eighth from the Soviet Union. For this success Monika Kallies was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

After completing her training as a technical draftsman, Monika Kallies also trained as an industrial clerk. She later worked in administration at SV Dynamo Gera.
