Daniela Druncea

Daniela Druncea (born November 2, 1990 in Buftea ) is a Romanian helmswoman in rowing .

Athletic career

The 1.50 m tall Daniela Druncea started out as a gymnast. At the gymnastics world championships in 2007 she received the bronze medal with the Romanian team. In 2008 she was a substitute gymnast for the Romanian squad. Then she ended her gymnastics career and switched to rowing.

Daniela Druncea has been Talida-Teodora Gîdoiu's helmswoman for the Romanian eighth since 2013 . She won her first international title at the 2013 European Championships in Seville . In the same year she received the silver medal at the World Championships in Chungju behind the US eight . In 2014 in Belgrade, the Romanian eighth won the European Championships , as in the previous year , and the eighth finished fourth at the World Championships in Amsterdam . After finishing third at the European Championships in 2015 , the Romanian eighth missed direct Olympic qualification with a seventh place at the World Championships . In May 2016, the Romanian eighth finished fourth at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel , two weeks later the crew won the last Olympic qualification in Lucerne. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Daniela Druncea won the bronze medal with the Romanian eighth behind the US eighth and the British.

At the end of May 2017, the Romanian eighth won the gold medal at the European Championships . As the season progressed, the boat also won the World Cup finals in Lucerne and the World Championships in Sarasota . In August 2018, the eighth defended the title at the European Championships . At the World Championships , the Romanian eighth finished fifth. In 2019, the Romanian eighth won the title ahead of the British women at the European Championships in Lucerne.
