Alison Cox

Alison Cox (born June 5, 1979 in Turlock , California ) is a former American rower who won an Olympic silver medal in eighth place in 2004.

Athletic career

The 1.82 m tall Alison Cox won the (unofficial) U23 World Championships in 2000 in a foursome without a helmsman . In 2001 she rowed in a four-man without helmsman at the 2001 World Championships in the adult class and took fourth place. In 2002 she moved to eighth and won the title at the 2002 World Championships in Seville. In 2003 she won the rowing world cup regattas in Milan and Munich with the US eighth . At the 2003 World Championships , the eighth finished fifth.

In 2004, the US eight won the World Cup regattas in Munich and Lucerne. At the Olympic Games in Athens , Katherine Johnson , Samantha Magee , Megan Dirkmaat , Alison Cox, Anna Mickelson , Laurel Korholz , Caryn Davies , Lianne Nelson and helmsman Mary Whipple competed in eighth. The crew won their preliminary run, in the final they crossed the finish line in second place, almost two seconds behind the Romanians and three tenths of a second ahead of the Dutch women.

Six years after winning the Olympic silver medal, Alison Cox took part in the 2010 World Championships . In the four without a helmsman with Mara Allen , Grace Luczak and Adrienne Martelli , she won the bronze medal behind the Dutch and Australians. In 2011, she won the World Cup in Munich again with the US eight.
