Megan Dirkmaat

Megan Dirkmaat (born May 3, 1976 in San José , California ) is a former American rower who won an Olympic silver medal in eighth place in 2004.

Athletic career

1.85 m tall Megan Dirkmaat rowed at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1999 she entered the rowing World Cup for the first time with the US eight . At the 2001 World Championships , she finished fourth with eighth place. In 2002 she rowed with Portia McGee in twos without a helmsman , the two took twelfth place at the 2002 World Championships . In 2003, Dirkmaat returned to eighth and won the World Cup in Munich. At the 2003 World Championships , she finished fifth with eighth place.

In 2004, the US eight won the World Cup regattas in Munich and Lucerne. At the Olympic Games in Athens , Katherine Johnson , Samantha Magee , Megan Dirkmaat, Alison Cox , Anna Mickelson , Laurel Korholz , Caryn Davies , Lianne Nelson and helmsman Mary Whipple competed in eighth. The crew won their preliminary run, in the final they crossed the finish line in second place, almost two seconds behind the Romanians and three tenths of a second ahead of the Dutch women.

At the 2005 World Championships , Dirkmaat finished fourth with the US eighth. In 2007 she rowed with Portia McGee, Erin Cafaro and Rachel Jeffers in the four without helmsman . At the World Championships in Munich , the four-man won the title ahead of the Germans and Australians.
