Elien Meijer

Elsiena "Elien" Janneke Meijer (born January 25, 1970 in Den Helder ) is a former Dutch rower . As a member of the Dutch eighth, she won the Olympic silver medal in 2000.

The 1.77 m tall Elien Meijer rowed for the Algemene Utrechtse students Roeivereniging Orca . At the 1994 World Championships in Indianapolis, the Dutch four-man without helmsman won with Femke Boelen , Elien Meijer, Muriel van Schilfgaarde and Rita de Jong in front of the boats from the United States and Australia. With eighth, Meijer finished fourth in Indianapolis. The following year, the Dutch four-man without a helmsman finished sixth at the World Championships in Tampere . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Elien Meijer and Anneke Venema competed in twos without a helmsman and took eighth place.

After a two-year break, Meijer returned to the regatta course in 1999 as a member of the eighth team. In the World Cup , the eighth finished second in Hazewinkel and Lucerne. At the 1999 World Championships in St. Catharines, the eighth finished fourth. In 2000 the Dutch women won the World Cup opener in Munich, and in Lucerne they took fourth place. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, as in Lucerne, the Romanians won, three seconds behind the Dutch women won the silver medal in the line-up of Anneke Venema, Carin ter Beek , Nelleke Penninx , Pieta van Dishoeck , Eeke van Nes , Tessa Appeldoorn , Marieke Westerhof and Elien Meijer and tax assistant Martijntje Quik .
