Samantha Magee

Samantha "Sam" Magee (born July 10, 1983 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is a former American rower who won an Olympic silver medal in eighth place in 2004.

Athletic career

Samantha Magee finished eighth in the two-man category at the 2000 Junior World Championships . The following year she took part in two boat classes at the Junior World Championships. She won the silver medal in the four without a helmsman and finished fifth in eight. At the 2003 World Championships , the 1.82 m tall Samatha Magee finished fifth with eighth.

In 2004, the US eight won the World Cup regattas in Munich and Lucerne. At the Olympic Games in Athens , Katherine Johnson , Samantha Magee, Megan Dirkmaat , Alison Cox , Anna Mickelson , Laurel Korholz , Caryn Davies , Lianne Nelson and helmsman Mary Whipple competed in eighth. The crew won their preliminary run, in the final they crossed the finish line in second place, almost two seconds behind the Romanians and three tenths of a second ahead of the Dutch women.

In 2005, Magee finished fourth at the World Championships with eighth . After a year break, she returned to eighth and won the title at the 2007 World Championships in Munich.
