Ilona Richter

Ilona Richter , after marriage to Ilona Dörfel (born March 11, 1953 in Neukirchen ), is a German rower from the GDR . In 1976 and 1980 she was Olympic champion in eighth place .

Life

Ilona Richter started rowing at the age of 13. She first belonged to the TSC Berlin , from 1969 she joined the newly founded SC Berlin-Grünau . In 1972 she was GDR champion in four-four . In 1973 she switched to oars and from 1974 to 1980, with the exception of 1977 and 1978, she was always a member of the GDR eighth.

In 1974 and 1975 she became world champion with the GDR eighth, a year later the GDR eighth took on Viola Goretzki , Christiane Knetsch , Ilona Richter, Brigitte Ahrenholz , Monika Kallies , Henrietta Ebert , Helma Lehmann , Irina Müller was taxwoman Marina Wilke. This team won the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal with a three-second lead over the Soviet Union .

In 1977 Ilona Richter became world champion with the four-man with the helmsman of the SC Berlin-Grünau . In 1979 she was runner-up in the world championship with eighth. In 1980 at the Olympic Games in Moscow she was the only female Olympic champion from 1976 in the eighth position alongside taxwoman Marina Wilke and Christiane Köpke (-Knetsch). Martina Boesler , Kersten Neisser , Christiane Köpke , Birgit Schütz , Gabriele Kühn , Ilona Richter, Marita Sandig , Karin Metze and Marina Wilke won with one second ahead of the Soviet boat.

After her second Olympic victory, she ended her sporting career. After completing her studies in physics and crystallography, she lived and researched from 1983 to 1986 with her husband, Bernd-Dietrich Dörfel, in Dubna . In 1987 Ilona Dörfel received her doctorate. After 1990 she became a research assistant at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing , where she is responsible for electron microscopy .
